What you need for Paul Klee inspired self-portraits:
- Art paper
- Permanent markers (You can use black crayons instead, but the crayons will show up lighter than the markers.)
- Bleeding tissue paper (It MUST be bleeding tissue paper, not regular tissue paper.)
- Paintbrushes
- Water
What to do to make Paul Klee inspired self-portraits:
- Help the kids draw a picture of themselves on the paper with the black permanent marker. It’s okay if you’re working with younger kids and they don’t draw exactly as you’d like. It’s about the process, not the product! (But please closely supervise children when using permanent markers!)
- Then cut the bleeding tissue paper into squares. You can do this ahead of time, if you’d like.
- The kids can lay the tissue paper over the top of their portraits.
- Coat them with water so the tissue paper sticks fully to the paper. The tissue paper should be completely wet.
- After they dry at least a little, peel off the squares. You’ll have such fun colors on top of your self-portraits!
