This Louise Loves Art by Kelly Light activity is great for toddlers and preschoolers. Incorporate art into literacy by reading the book and then following with the paper people chain activity. And after, you can read the book again with the completed process art to really tie the book and activity together.

Louise Loves Art by Kelly Light
Louise Loves Art is an endearing picture book about a sister who is annoyed with her little brother (named Art) for ruining her art. (Art cuts Louise’s art into a paper people chain – whoops!). It, of course, has a happy ending with Louise loving Art and his artwork (pun intended). It’s a great book about sibling relationships, making mistakes, and finding the best in every situation.
Paper People Chains
Make paper people chains, just like Art and Louise make in Louise Loves Art!
Decorating the paper people chains is a process art activity, meaning it’s about the process – not the product. Let the kids decorate the paper people chains however they’d like. They can use whatever tools you provide. (Cutting paper people chains might be a little too challenging for toddlers and preschoolers, so I cut ours ahead of time.)
But, you can make this a project for older kids, and they’ll love unfolding the paper they cut and finding a bunch of people. We decorated ours with everything red because the book’s main color is red.
We used feathers, markers, pom-poms, crepe paper, washi tape etc. Basically anything red I could find in our craft closet!
So easy! So inexpensive! So fun!
If you try making your own paper people chain, leave a comment below! I’d love to see what your littles create!
