Supplies:
- White 8 1/2″ x 11″ card stock
- Printer with black ink
- Liquid watercolors (We love Colorations!)
- Paintbrushes
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or string

A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni is a wonderful book for practicing color recognition. Read it as inspiration for this fun process art activity!
Directions:
- Before beginning the craft with the kids, print chameleon outlines onto sheets of card stock. (I used the template from Academy at the Lakes.) Then, I put one chameleon on the top of each page and another on the bottom of each page, and then I cut the page in half to create two pages. Finally, I printed five chameleon images for each child.
- Then, I cut two holes on the left side of each half sheet.
- All right, now the kids can come in and start painting and illustrate their books! With watercolors and paint brushes, they can paint each chameleon one color or many colors – it’s up to them!
- When the finished illustrations are dry, stack them together and tie the ribbon through the holes to make a book. And you’re done!
